Finally it is spring in this part of the world. Thanks God!!

And with the beauty of the blooming flowers comes the seasonal allergies for many people. If you are tired of the runny nose, sneezing and itchy throat, I invite you to try one of all the natural remedies that Ayurveda has to us.

1.   NETY POT

The Nety Pot is a small teapot that we fill with a saltwater solution to rinse our nasal passages. The word “Neti” is the Sanskrit word for “nasal cleansing” and is an ancient ayurvedic practice. At first, the whole idea of rising the nose can sound a little strange, but it's an easy way to fight against the pollen allergies or nasal congestion. Today you can find neti pots and saline solutions in many pharmacies or online, the important thing is always using water that has been distilled or sterilized.

2.   WARM LEMON WATER

Another Ayurveda practice to combat seasonal allergies (and actually to do all year around) is drinking a big glass of warm water with the juice of half lemon every morning after brushing your teeth and before your morning beverage or food. This practice can boost the immune system, increase ingestion of Vitamin C and balances pH in the body.

3.  ESSENTIAL OILS

My favorite way to use essential oils is applying them directly to the skin, but using an oil diffuser is an easier way. Different essential oils can help with different conditions. To fight allergies you can try one of these:

-  Peppermint Oil: It is a expectorant and can help clear the sinuses.

-  Eucalyptus Oil: It is an analgesic, expectorant and anti-inflammatory, and can help reduce the symptoms of allergies.

-  Tea Tree Oil: It is an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory.  Can reduce all kind of allergens.

-  Lemon Oil: This oil helps boost the immune system and can be used around the house to eliminate allergens. Just mix a few drops of oil with water to spray around the house.

-  Lavender Oil: Lavender Oil is my favorite! It is an anti-inflammatory and antihistamine, and can help reduce the symptoms of allergies. Is also great to encourage a restful sleep.

I hope that one of these natural remedies can help you to enjoy this season with less sneezing. But always remember that this information is not a substitute for professional medical treatment.

Happy Spring,

Gaby
